For a sofa your family sits on every day, look for a fabric graded for everyday home use, which our product pages mark as 15,000 to 30,000 rubs. If the sofa also takes children, pets or a lot of guests, look at the heavy-use grade of 30,000 to 50,000 rubs.
What a rub count is
A rub count is the number of times a test machine can rub a fabric before it starts to show wear. A higher number means a tougher surface. It does not tell you how soft a fabric feels, so two fabrics with the same count can feel completely different under your hand.
The grades on our fabrics
Each upholstery fabric page on our website shows one of these grades:
| Grade | Rubs | Where it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday home | 15,000 to 30,000 | a hall or drawing room sofa used daily |
| Heavy use | 30,000 to 50,000 | family sofas with children or pets, dining chairs |
