A standard designer wallpaper roll, 53 cm wide and 10 metres long, covers about 45 square feet of wall, give or take 10 percent. Many of our rolls run to 10.5 metres, and the exact length is on every product page. On a 9 foot ceiling that means three strips from one roll for a small pattern, and two strips for a medium or large one.
So the honest way to count rolls is by strips, not square feet. Here is how Jagdish Store works it out in Gurugram.
Step one: count the strips
Measure the width of the wall in centimetres and divide it by 53, the width of one roll. Round up to the next whole number. That is your number of strips, which fitters call drops.
A wall 305 cm wide (10 feet) needs 305 / 53 = 5.75, so 6 strips.
Step two: see how many strips one roll gives you
Each strip is the height of your wall plus 10 cm for trimming at the top and bottom. Divide the roll length, 1,000 cm or 1,050 cm depending on the design, by that strip length and round down.
- On a 9 foot wall (274 cm), each strip is 284 cm. Either roll length gives 3 strips.
- On a wall around 11 feet tall, each strip is about 345 cm. A 10 metre roll gives only 2, while a 10.5 metre roll still gives 3.
Then divide your strips by the strips per roll and round up. Six strips at three per roll is 2 rolls.
How the pattern changes the count
Every pattern repeats at a fixed height, and each new strip has to start where the design lines up with the one beside it. That costs paper.
| Pattern | Strips per roll at 9 feet | Extra to allow |
|---|---|---|
| Texture, stripe, small floral | 3 | none |
| Medium pattern, repeat from 33 cm | 2 | about 20 percent |
| Large pattern, repeat above 68 cm | 2 | about 30 percent |
The same 10 foot wall with a medium pattern needs 6 strips at two per roll, which is 3 rolls instead of 2.
Do I need a spare roll?
We do not add one to your quote automatically. It is still worth thinking about. Rolls are printed in batches and a later batch can differ slightly in shade, so if you expect to repair a damaged strip in a few years, buying one extra roll now keeps the colour identical.
What installation costs
Installation is ₹850 per roll, premium glue included. Part of a roll counts as a full roll. Wall murals are installed at ₹20 per square foot.
For a measured wallpaper job, you book the fitter's home visit online with an advance of at least 20 percent of the wallpaper value. It is not refundable and is adjusted in your final bill.
Frequently asked questions
Why not just divide the wall area by 45 square feet? Because strips cannot be joined end to end. A roll that yields three full strips plus a short offcut leaves that offcut unused, so the square foot figure overstates what you can actually hang. Counting strips gives the real number.
My ceiling is higher than 9 feet. What changes? Each strip gets longer, so one roll may give two strips instead of three. Divide the roll length on the product page by your wall height plus 10 cm, round down, and use that figure.
How much does it cost to install two rolls? Two rolls cost ₹1,700 to install at ₹850 a roll, glue included. If the job uses part of a third roll, that part is charged as a full roll.
